“PEOPLE WILL SERVE AND FOLLOW THE LEADER WHO SERVES THEIR NEEDS”

 

KEEPING LEADERSHIP’S ROLE IN FOCUS

Ezekiel 34 provides an excellent example of how leadership style and attitude impact people and organizational productivity.

….“Woe to the shepherds of Israel who feed themselves! Should not the shepherds feed the flocks? You eat the fat and clothe yourselves with the wool; you slaughter the fatlings, but you do not feed the flock. The weak you have not strengthened, nor have you healed those who were sick, nor bound up the broken, nor brought back what was driven away, nor sought what was lost; but with force and cruelty you have ruled them. So they were scattered because there was no shepherd; and they became food for all the beasts of the field when they were scattered…….EZEKIEL 34:2-5

 

SOME VERY IMPORTANT LEADERSHIP PRINCIPLES THAT ARE SUGGESTED HERE ARE:-

1.       THE LEADER SHOULD NOT EXPLOIT THOSE WHO WORK UNDER HIM.

           ~To pursue our own selfish interests while neglecting the needs of the people who serve under us is offensive to GOD. He pronounces a “WOE” on any kind of that leadership.

2.       THE LEADER SHOULD LOOK FOR THE WAYS TO SERVE THOSE UNDER HIM

           ~People have a lot of needs to be met. The weak need to be strengthened and encouraged.

-the sick need to be healed.

-The strayed need to be brought back.

- The lost need to be found.

-israel’s leaders in Ezekiels time did not meetany of these needs.

On the contrary they used their power to be cruel and harsh with the people.

Keep in mind that the effective leader uses his position and authority to serve and meet the needs of others, not to force them to serve his needs.

3.       THE LEADER SHOULD SERVE WILLINGLY AND EAGERLY

          ~”Be the shepherds of Gods flock that is under your care, serving as overseers. Not because you MUST, but because you are willing,. As God wants it to be.” 1Peter 5:2

-The effective leader doesn’t complain about his responsibility to serve the work-related needs of the subordinates.

4.       THE LEADER SHOULD EXHIBIT SUCH A SPIRIT THAT PEOPLE WILLINGLY FOLLOW.

-We saw from Ezekiel that the leaders used their positions to meet their own needs and desires at their people’s expense. In addition, they have behaved  “harshly and brutally” with the effect on people being ..”So they were scattered because there was no shepherd”…(EZ 34:5)

-Notice that the excessive use of authority and failure to meet the people’s needs drove them away. This principle applies to the church as well as any type of an organization. People resist the excessive use of authority by their leaders.

The new Testament tells  us to avoid dominating those under us. “ Not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock” 1Peter  5:3

~leaders are  to provide an example people will want to follow. How do they do that? As mentioned in chapter 1 “If today you will be a servant to those people and serve them and give them a favorable answer they will always be your servants” 1 KINGS 12:7.

have joy whatever the circumstances!

It's not our circumstances that steal our joy; it's our attitude during our circumstances.

It is easy to think "If I could just get a new car, a bigger house, a better job, or more money, then I'll be happy." We tend to view happiness as a commodity attainable by wealth. However, as the old saying goes, "money cannot buy happiness."
Indeed, no amount of money or things will ever give you lasting joy or contentment; that's because joy and contentment are not based on circumstances. Therefore, if you're not content with what you have, you won't be content with what you want.
Although at first it may seem difficult, it is very possible to be content even during harsh circumstances. Paul said, in Philippians 4:11-12, "I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want."
In those two verses, Paul is saying that he could be content—that is, have joy—regardless of his circumstances. Joy should not be dependent on circumstances; it should be present regardless of them.
When Paul said that he could be content "in any and every situation," he truly meant everything—even the tough times of testing. In 2 Corinthians 11:24-27, he lists some of the tough times that he has endured: "Five times I received from the Jews the forty lashes minus one. Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was stoned, three times I was shipwrecked, I spent a night and a day in the open sea, I have been constantly on the move. I have been in danger from rivers, in danger from bandits, in danger from my own countrymen, in danger from Gentiles; in danger in the city, in danger in the country, in danger at sea; and in danger from false brothers. I have labored and toiled and have often gone without sleep; I have known hunger and thirst and have often gone without food; I have been cold and naked."
Even in all these things, Paul had "learned to be content." Clearly, it's not our circumstances that steal our joy. You, too, can learn "to be content whatever the circumstances."
Stop thinking that you will have joy after you buy a new house, after you get married, after you buy a better car, after your in-laws treat you right. Don't put off joy until after everything goes your way; decide to have joy now!

 For you can have joy whatever the circumstances!

INTRODUCTORY REMARKS during MY SEMINARS

 

Are you one of those young men and women who are either losing or have already lost control of their minds and behavior to peer pressure and popular culture?

Do you dance to the tune of other people’s music or are you making your own music?

Are you an eagle soaring high in the skies of success or are you a chicken flocking together with other chicken and doing dumb stuff because “OTHERS” are doing it?

Are you a character in other peoples stories or are you writing your OWN story?

Are you just an oxygen thief wasting time/space in school or college or are you a student aspiring to achieve academic excellence?

Are you in control of your life and future? Or are controlled by your life?

“I WISH I KNEW THEN WHAT I KNOW NOW”

Trust me that these words will definitely roll off your tongue or go through your mind ten or twenty years to come…….UNLESS you TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR LIFE” NOW!

Many grownups today will tell you the same thing. If somehow they were taken back into their teenage years in high school or college there are so many things they would do differently. Top most on their list would take their school or college work seriously! To perform exceptionally well in class and come out with top grades. This would have put them firmly on their desired career paths and ensure that they “DETERMINE THEIR DESTINY”

  But now to most of them it’s a little too late. And they have been left “WISHING THAT THEY KNEW THEN WHAT THEY KNOW NOW”

“DON’T JOIN THAT GROUP”

“DON’T TAKE THAT PATH”

“DON’T RUIN YOUR LIFE BY WASTING THE OPPORTUNITY YOU HAVE NOW”

Seize the moment and start writing your OWN STORY of your life. The good thing about writing your own story is that you can create whatever HAPPY ENDING YOU DESIRE”

The value of Education has shot sky-high. It is a necessity in today’s world. The intellectual competition out there is cut throat! Gone are the days when people floated through school or college and came out with poor grades and a certificate.

In today’s world “GOOD EDUCATION IS THE KEY”.  The world is quickly becoming “A GLOBAL VILLAGE”  and that means you have to think globally and not locally!

You are a brand unto yourself and any marketer will tell you that a brand which offers a high value in terms of satisfaction is a strong brand. It can sell anywhere. THAT’S WHY COCA COLA IS EVERYWHERE”

In the same breath education will turn you into an international brand marketable anywhere! It will open doors and make you fit perfectly into the global society. “THE OPPOSITE IS GRIM” lack of good education will limit you. Like a poorly valued brand you will be utmost unmarketable anywhere.

Education opens up life to diverse possibilities and opportunities, as vast as the universe itself! It expands your mind and broadens your thinking. It affords you knowledge “WHICH IS POWER” it places the world at your feet. You can achieve anything you want , so long as you put your mind to it!

If you are either reading this article of listening to me present it in some of the leadership seminars and mentorship workshops and through my motivational speaking or via most of the social media that I am in, YOU HAVE JUST PUT YOURSELF ON THE RIGHT PATH TOWARDS DETERMINING YOUR FUTURE!

Recent media reports have highlighted the lack of discipline in schools that has led to wanton strikes and Arson. This coupled with many problems that plague high school students and college students has exposed the need for focused attention on the dynamic needs of today’s students.
